Gemsbok Bull model for BBHD

The Gemsbok is the 10th animal to be introduced into the Big Buck universe, and the 4th main animal in Big Buck Safari. It made its debut in 2008 on Big Buck Safari, and was remade in 2015 for Big Buck HD. However, for the latter, it wasn't available until April 1, 2017.

Trivia[]

  • The "G" is pronounced with the soft "G" sound. This is how it was pronounced in Big Buck Safari, but promos and even Play Mechanix staff pronounced it with the hard "G" sound. Players also argue over its proper pronunciation.
    • One reason that could possibly have led to this conundrum is because Big Buck Safari was narrated by a person with a thick African accent and a deep voice, and his tongue didn't quite match those of the game's Western target audience.
  • This animal was first previewed for Big Buck HD in a video shown at the 2014 Big Buck World Championship. Videos of sites from the first 2 Treks were shown, but not playable during either the World Championship or Ladies' Tourney. However, the Pirate Ship Bonus was the only Bonus Game from Gemsbok that showed up, and it was on Trek 2 of the final match of the Ladies' Tourney.
    • This was due to the fact that all 3 animals from Big Buck HD v8.00 were planned to be released in 2015, but it was later changed so that only one animal per year would be unlocked by the database. As a result, all Gemsbok content was removed from the World Championship until the year prior to its playability.
      • In 2016, Bighorn Sheep was supposed to be unlocked by the database, but Gemsbok was unlocked instead. A patch for this was released on March 31, 2016. Even though the animal didn't have permissions to be played, it was still unlockable (at least in Canada) by entering a cheat code with the gun pump and trigger on the animal select screen.
    • All Gemsbok content officially returned for the 2016 Big Buck World Championship, and all Sites and Bonuses could now be played during both the World Championship and Ladies' Tourney.
  • This is the only other animal in Big Buck HD to have Big Game Trophies.
  • Zuid-Afrika, where Trek 3 takes place, means South Africa in Afrikaans. Tankwa Karoo is a national park in that country.
  • Even though both males and females have horns in real life (males have longer horns), both the Big Buck Safari and Big Buck HD cow models do not have them. This was likely done to ensure that players would not be confused between a bull and a cow.
